In order to support this leading tech company’s Employee Resource Group (ERG) leaders, the Farzana Nayani team was invited to lead a two-day summit on ERG best practices. The summit utilized materials and frameworks from Nayani’s book, The Power of Employee Resource Groups: How People Create Authentic Change, in order to challenge the leaders on how to best support ERG membership, engage key stakeholders, and plan for the upcoming year.
Challenge
- Seeking a way to support ERG leaders and improve engagement within the groups.
Scope of Work
- Lead and plan the first annual ERG summit
- Engage 3 senior leaders and 12 ERG attendees for a total of 15 attendees
- Action item: network mapping
- Lead and provide communication strategy for executive sponsors
- Give live feedback for ERG leaders to give a pitch for key stakeholders
- Creation of handouts and resources provided to bring back to members
- Provide deep dive analysis of current membership and how to improve engagement
- Provide deep dive analysis of stakeholder engagement and how to increase buy-in
Solution
The Farzana Nayani team was invited to lead a two-day summit for the tech company’s ERG leaders. The summit utilized materials and frameworks from Nayani’s book, The Power of Employee Resource Groups: How People Create Authentic Change, in order to challenge the leaders on how to best support ERG membership, engage key stakeholders, and plan for the upcoming year. Attendees were provided with handouts and resources to bring back to their members.
Results
The workshop resulted in a deep analysis of current ERG memberships, and provided a deep analysis of stakeholder engagement and how to increase buy-in. Live feedback was provided for ERG leaders during an exercise pitching to key stakeholders. The summit also resulted in action steps for network mapping and plan communication strategies for executive sponsors.
The partnership with Farzana Nayani’s team resulted in a successful summit for the tech company’s ERG leaders. Attendees were provided with tools and best practices for supporting ERGs, as well as guidance for leadership to support their ERGs. The result was increased engagement and participation in the ERGs, as well as sustainable, effective goal-setting and mission/vision establishment. The summit received positive feedback from attendees and resulted in action steps for improving engagement within the groups.
